Those Dancing Days Are Gone

Those Dancing Days Are Gone

William B. Yeats

Come, let me sing into your ear;

Those dancing days are gone,

All that silk and satin gear;

Crouch upon a stone,

Wrapping that foul body up

In as foul a rag:

I carry the sun in a golden cup.

The moon in a silver bag.

Curse as you may I sing it through;

That the most could pleasure you,

The children that he gave,

Are somewhere sleeping like a top

Under a marble flag?

I carry the sun in a golden cup.

The moon in a silver bag.

I thought it out this very day.

Noon upon the clock,

A man may put pretence away

Who leans upon a stick,

May sing, and sing until he drop,

Whether to maid or hag:

I carry the sun in a golden cup,

The moon in a silver bag.

ps, this poem remains me of another great poet Byron's 'She walks in Beauty' it's amazing how Yeats found unity between things when he brought together gold and silver. just as Byron seems to find unity within this woman, whether she be his cousin or not. he describes being able to 'unite all that's best of dark or night' within her.

First DIY project - Entrelac Sweater

(YARN INFO): Kureyon by Noro $11, made in Japan and 100% wool, hand wash. Noro Kureyon is the original striping yarn. Each skein of Noro Kureyon is a multitude of natural colors and no two projects will look exactly alike.

ANOTHER USE OF Kureyon 64 Crayons by Amy Swenson -- basically the two-row "brooklyn tweed scarf" with strips sewn together to make a blanket. Each strip uses two contrasting colorways of Kureyon (did you know that's Japanese for crayon??)

Orchid and Plum Blossom

Received this orchid from UPS by my lovely mother-in law. It was a generous day so our family went to national botanical garden. When everything has faded they alone shine forth, encroaching on the charms of smaller gardens. Their scattered shadows fall lightly on clear water, their subtle scent pervades the moonlit dusk. Snowbirds look again before they land, butterflies would faint if they but knew. Thankfully I can flirt in whispered verse, I don't need a sounding board or winecup.
